The wait for the film to land on streaming is one of the longest intervals between a theatrical release and a Disney+ streaming release since the platform's inception, exceeding the typical 90-day window. You can finally stream the star-studded film in September.
2023's "The Little Mermaid" is a live-action remake of the classic 1989 animated Disney film, which features the story of a young mermaid, Ariel (Halle Bailey), daughter of King Triton (Javier Bardem). Ariel desperately wants to experience life on land and meet the handsome Prince Eric (Jonah Hauer-King).
In order to make her dream come true, she makes a deal with a sea witch, Ursula (Melissa McCarthy), and journeys to the surface aided by her friends Flounder (Jacob Tremblay) the fish, Sebastian (Daveed Diggs) the crab and Scuttle (Awkwafina) the seagull.
Rob Marshall directed the film, which features Alan Menken's original songs as well as new songs from Lin Manuel-Miranda.
"The Little Mermaid" arrives on Disney+ on September 6, 2023.
You can stream the live-action "The Little Mermaid" as well as the animated original on Disney+—you can sign up for Disney+ starting at $7.99 per month with ads, or bundle with Hulu for just $9.99 per month.
